Welcome back to AI Horizons, your 5-minute dose of essential AI insights and actionable tech strategies.

Here's what’s on deck today:

  • OpenAI pushes the White House to sideline state AI regulations (and its competitors).

  • AI could soon be writing nearly all the world’s code.

  • Disney and NVIDIA launch Star Wars-inspired AI robots.

  • Google's Gemini image editor sparks ethical debate.

  • Zapier launches a powerful new chatbot to automate your business.

FEATURED INSIGHT💡

OpenAI Wants Federal Oversight—But on Their Terms

OpenAI just released its official response to the White House’s call for public input on the AI Action Plan. The company is urging for federal oversight of AI development in exchange for protection from state-level regulations—particularly targeting the staggering 781 AI bills introduced across various states this year.

Their proposal suggests increased federal investments, copyright law reforms, and more extensive access to government datasets. Notably, OpenAI explicitly recommends banning Chinese-based AI lab DeepSeek, labeling it as “state-controlled” and a security risk.

Critics are calling foul. This push comes at an uneasy time, as OpenAI faces backlash for its closed-source model approach and copyright controversies. Accusations suggest that OpenAI is using geopolitical tensions to undercut open-source competition, which threatens the dominance of the "Generative AI Duopoly" formed by OpenAI and Anthropic.

Bottom line: OpenAI’s move highlights a deeper debate over AI ethics, innovation, and what fair competition should look like—especially when powerhouses begin influencing policy.

ON THE HORIZON 🌅

Coding's Human Element Could Soon Disappear

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says that within months, AI may be writing up to 90% of all new code, and in just a year, nearly all coding could be AI-generated. Currently, AI dramatically boosts productivity, but human developers still own the strategic aspects—setting project goals, managing security, and making nuanced design decisions.

However, as AI rapidly improves, the remaining human roles in programming may dwindle. The question isn’t if AI will handle all coding, but when—and what this means for the industry’s human workforce.
